Florence: Uffizi museum religious works

The Uffizi has a collection of ancient (or copies of ancient) roman busts and figures that are pretty remarkable. It also has a collection of fungible and forgettable religious works.

For some centuries, the church seemed intent on funding mediocre works of the same subject. I can't imagine I'm the first to say "The life work of the 'Master of the Cross' painter is kind of high-school art-class... but with gold paint."

There were also some truly masterfully done canvases of religious scenes. But they were similar enough that I can't remember any of them explicitly. Lots of people close together, looking upward, not a lot of expression, plus Jesus in the middle.

Aside: Italy has the feel of a country that hasn't quite made it into the first world. If you visit Florence, don't expect first world amenities.
